I have been an arts educator since 1985 and officially retired in 2011.  My professional art career in photography, mixed media acrylic, textiles, and acrylic painting began in the early 1990’s.
When I started my teaching career in the Roanoke Virginia school system I taught art in Elementary and Secondary classes.  In 2000 until my official retirement in 2011 I taught high school students, was an Adjunct professor at Roanoke College, an Adjunct professor at Blue Ridge Community College, and at JMU sat on the Clinical Faculty.  I am currently employed as a substitute arts professor in the Bedford School System in Virginia and the Greenville South Carolina school system.
I have received various honors and leadership roles during my career while obtaining my Masters of Art in teaching from Hollins University in 1996.  Two of the most significant as an artist was the Fulbright Scholarship Teacher program to Japan in 1999 and the Fulbright Hayes Scholar to Kenya, Africa in 2006.  Both of these experiences have continued my love of color, textures, photography, and the cultural artistic diversity everywhere in the world that helped form my decision to go into arts education.  It has been very rewarding to have the opportunity to create art, encourage creativity, and enhance a young person’s experience in life through art.
